Gautam Gambhir quits as Delhi Daredevils skipper in IPL

NEW DELHI: Gautam Gambhir on Wednesday ventured down as chief of Indian Premier League side Delhi Daredevils after they lost five of their initial six matches in the current year's Twenty20 competition.

Mumbai batsman Shreyas Iyer has been named the new skipper of a side that untruths base of the eight-group table in the money rich alliance.

Gambhir, who drove Kolkata Knight Riders to two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014, was purchased by Daredevils for $418,320 in the January sell off and therefore made captain in front of the 2018 season.

In any case, the left-gave opener neglected to rouse the Daredevils in the principal half of the IPL. He has scored only 85 keeps running in five innings.

"I assume full liability for where we are at the focuses table," Gambhir told columnists in New Delhi.

"I felt this was the perfect time since despite everything we have a possibility. Completely my choice. No weight from the establishment.

"Perhaps I was excessively edgy, making it impossible to turn things around...I was sitting alone and considering, I couldn't deal with the weight... I was sufficiently bad and that is altogether," said the 36-year-old Gambhir.

Adrenaline junkies mentor Ricky Ponting praised Gambhir for what the previous Australian skipper called an "extreme choice".

"I think Gautam merits a considerable measure of credit with the way he has taken care of this circumstance," said Ponting.

"It's extremely inconceivable in Indian cricket for a senior player to put his hand up and say that I am not playing all around ok and for the group's purpose I am will remain down," he included.

Gambhir, who played his 58th and latest Test for India in 2016 against England, has tumbled off the selectors' radar.

Thrill seekers' group administration said Gambhir will proceed as player and coach for a side as yet looking for its first title in the fabulous association which started in 2008.

The IPL is currently in its eleventh season.

There is $8 million in prize cash in question including $4 million for the triumphant group. The last happens on May 27 in Mumbai.
